Ignoring the Disquietâ„¢ can lead to depression

Important information about men and depression.

newsweek.jpg

In the February 26 issue of Newsweek, there is an important cover feature on some of the latest findings about the nature of depression and how more men suffer from it than previously thought. The article has some important findings which I will outline here.

I am writing about this here because some of the key points are related to
Men’s Disquietâ„¢. I want to be careful here. I am not saying that someone who is struggling with their Disquiet is clinically depressed. But the studies are now showing that not dealing with lengthy or severe stress can lead to depression.

Men who suffer from prolonged stress can become depressed. Not dealing with one’s Disquiet can be very stressful.

Announcing the Family Support Seriesâ„¢!

This is a new feature that is included in my two premier coaching programs: Engaging the Disquiet Coaching Program and the Empty Success Programâ„¢. As part of their coaching, my clients learn how to support their families while they go through some pretty significant changes.

In other articles, I have talked about the stress on a family when someone undergoes any significant personal change. Most folks don’t think that self improvement work like that found in coaching programs, deep spiritual work, therapy and other endeavors could have a negative impact. It can.

ETD Episode #16 Tapping into the Disquiet in Strange Places

Sunday, February 18th, 2007

Engaging the Disquiet (ETD) Podcast Episode #16. Length: 11.07 minutes

You can listen to the episode by clicking on the prompt above. To learn how you can automatically get new episodes for free to download to your MP3 player or computer, check out the sidebar to the right. Hint: Some of my audience enjoy burning several on a CD and listening to them in their car.

In this episode I talk about a recent experience where some of my own Disquiet showed up. It happened when I went to a surprise 50th Birthday celebration for a friend from college that I had not seen in 13 years.

I also discuss a great new book out by Thomas Moore, “The Dark Nights of the Soul, a Guide to Finding Your Way Thorough Life’s Ordeals“. This was based on an earlier blog post . You can read more about it as well as order the book from there if you like.

Please leave me your reactions, ask questions or share your perspective in the comments section. Thanks!

What this Blog can do

Monday, February 12th, 2007

I had a meeting today with my friend, marketing adviser and website developer Dawud Miracle. By the way, he is very talented and a great guy. So if you ever need any help with your business or your website, he is the man. In addition, he is a pioneer in the world of blogging and how to harness it for your business.

Anyway, we discussed how to take advantage of this medium to provide more than just information. In addition to providing information about the Disquiet, I am also planning to provide the following:

One of the key secrets to lasting change

Wednesday, February 7th, 2007

I think one of the main reasons we fail to make the big changes we want in our lives is because we think it’s about will power. We think to ourselves, “If I really want something different, I have to just do it.” And when it gets tough, I just have to try harder. And when it doesn’t work, I have must blame myself: “I didn’t try hard enough”. “I am not strong enough”. “I didn’t have enough will power.”

There are other things we occasionally like to blame: it was God’s will, it wasn’t meant to be, the universe didn’t answer, or I didn’t deserve it. Those are for other discussions.

Most of us, at one time of another, blame our lack of will or endurance for not getting to our goals.

It is not about will.

Learning from the mistakes of others

Monday, January 22nd, 2007

And connecting at the same time!

I discovered an interesting brand-new website/blog called Only Human through the help of another great resource, LifeHack. This new site is a creative application of the social community phenomenon that is emerging on the Internet. This is how they describe themselves:

We Are Only Human is a web site dedicated to helping people from each other’s experiences. Only Human is a community where people share stories about mistakes they’ve made in life and their advice to others.
