Resource roundup for the week of January 8th
These are resources and items of interest I found from the web that relate to different aspects of working with the Disquiet. Enjoy!
Personal Productivity:
“How many times have you started a new activity (such as a personal project or exercise routine) with a burst of enthusiasm, only to see that initial momentum evaporate? This often leads to depression and causes us to give up prematurely. I’ve experienced this letdown dozens of times myself. But fortunately, with a bit of thought and reflection you can turn this negative emotion around.” John Wesley helps in “Overcoming the loss of motivation that follows a surge of productivity.”
Steve Pavlina writes, “suppose you want to become more successful in your career, and you set a goal to reach a certain position. Maybe the main reason you haven’t yet reached that position is that your character attributes are out of sync with it. Perhaps you aren’t disciplined enough, confident enough, or resourceful enough to get there. Learn how to achieve your goals while improving your character.
“… a lot of people are living out of balance. Working too much; (taking on) too many responsibilities. They often need values clarification. If you say family and friends are important to you but you work 80 hours a week, you’re not living or acting on values. You’re kidding yourself. Be accountable for work-life balance by Greg on Liftwo.com
How often do you say I wish I had more time. There aren’t enough hours in a day. How will I get everything done?
Men’s Work:
If you have read articles here before, you have heard about The Mankind Project. Here is a description of the outcomes of the weekend training: “Men come back more honest and with a deeper understanding of personal integrity. They are able to see clearer the impact their family of origin has had on them - particularly the parenting they received from their fathers. On the weekend, many experience what it feels like to be loved and valued for the first time in their lives. They come back more whole, less defended, and more able to make positive life changes.”
I think that really captures the experience that I and thousands of other men have had from the training. Check it out! Thanks to the submission by Patti Henry at a great blog about the training, http://nwtamkp.blogspot.com/index.html
Men’s Roles:
Interested in some general links about being a dad? These sites offer lots of information about fatherhood in general: http://fatherhood.about.com/od/mensissues/index.htm
And for inspiration: “Strongest Dad In the World“, an amazing video!
Baby Boomer Fun:
And finally, a fun spot for all us baby boomers. Here is the great mother lode of all that made our generation. Posters, song lyrics, trivia, great articles and other treasures to explore: http://www.bbhq.com/
Have Fun!
