I have been tagged by 2 great blogs as part of a meme. DMiracle.com and NOW.com both tagged me to write about the 5-10 top goals that I have for my life.
What the heck did I just say? Let me translate: In the blogging world, called the blogosphere, blogs can actually kick off a world-wide conversation by sending other blogs a request to write about a particular subject. The articles are linked so that readers can see the entire web of articles and comments.
So this is a meme about goals. Here are mine. Like Dawud, my overarching goal is to take my last breath knowing I have lived life fully and have few regrets.

What we focus on in our lives creates our world. We tend to think that view is the total reality. Every once in a while, something you see or experience shakes up that world view. It is like jumping awake after we doze off. We are startled. Things look different. Things are different.
Working with the Disquiet requires shaking up our world view. We change what we are focused on. Expanding it to include a new view is like increasing the bandwidth. It allows us to see things that were impossible to see before. So the first key step is changing our view.

OK, so as I continue to spar and dance with my current surge of Disquiet, turning 50; I added some napalm to the fire:
From my good friend Wesley at LifeTwo.com (who I just interviewed here) comes this humbling piece of wisdom [Source: BoomerGirl.com]:
Even people in top shape need to recognize they’re not kids anymore, says Dr. John Morley, chief of geriatrics at St. Louis University School of Medicine. “You cannot be at 50 what you were at 30.”
Wesley wrote: “Fortunately, it’s not all bad news. Middle age adults and seniors are much stronger similarly aged people were three decades ago. Strides in health care and healthy lifestyles have made living past 50 much more active and fun.”
And there is a lot we can do. But what is actually happening to a 50 yr old bod? Dr Morley says plenty:

I think one of the main reasons we fail to make the big changes we want in our lives is because we think it’s about will power. We think to ourselves, “If I really want something different, I have to just do it.” And when it gets tough, I just have to try harder. And when it doesn’t work, I have must blame myself: “I didn’t try hard enough”. “I am not strong enough”. “I didn’t have enough will power.”
There are other things we occasionally like to blame: it was God’s will, it wasn’t meant to be, the universe didn’t answer, or I didn’t deserve it. Those are for other discussions.
Most of us, at one time of another, blame our lack of will or endurance for not getting to our goals.
It is not about will.

As we begin a new month, I want to share what is out there for helpful resources for working with your Disquiet. 
Liz Strauss, a great writer I regularly enjoy and a career coach I respect, wisely writes that everyone gets the same 24 hours. It’s what we do with it that counts. She has Ten Ways to Start Living Your Life. Great stuff! One that jumped out at me was #8:
- Learn the physical symptoms of when your head and heart become disconnected. We know when we’re having a knee jerk reaction, when we’re feeling sorry for ourselves, and when we’re being blind to people’s feelings. We can remember how it felt physically while we were behaving badly. Get to know those symptoms, and you can stop the behavior. Living life will feel a whole lot safer because you won’t be in danger of shooting yourself in the foot.
I think this is a key skill and one that I make sure we are building as a competency when I work with my clients as they engage their Disquiet. Building that congruence between gut, heart and head is fundamental to living authentically and powerfully. Click to read more and enter the discussion »

One of the hallmark drivers of the Disquiet is the unanswered call to live your life according to your unique calling. Sometimes we have ignored the messages of our true calling and we get off our path. Feeling empty about our life, being lost, suffering a midlife crisis are all about this. Getting back on our path is the work we talk about here.
There is a lot of wisdom from history that trace back to the spiritual traditions and martial arts (for example, Bujinkan and the Bushido code ) on the path of the warrior. In this sense the word “warrior” refers not to soldiering or waging war for profit, but to guardianship and protection. It’s about service and stewardship. It means giving. When we are living our lives through our callings and are totally engaged with it, giving back to others (our family and communities) is more than just our legacy, it is a key component of our internal guidance system. It is who we are in the world.
I recently read an article by my friend, Alvin Soon and he shared a credo that I had once used as a manifesto for my own life. I am grateful to have it show back up in my life. I will now share it with the men I work with.
